Tryst will stage two plays in
the Falkirk District round of the SCDA one-act play festival
this year. It runs on two nights – Sunday 20th and Monday
21st February at 7pm in Bowhouse Community Centre, Grangemouth.
On Sunday, it’s Truth, Beauty and Contact Lenses
by Harry Glass. The title comes from a quote from Laurence
J. Peter, author of The Peter Principle, in which he says
“Competence, like truth, beauty and contact lenses,
is in the eye of the beholder.” The play takes a satirical
and, at times, cynical look at the battle of the sexes. Like
pieces on a chess board, the actors are moved from one challenging
situation to another in this witty and evocative piece of
theatre. Directed by Brian Paterson, the cast is Joanne Davidson,
Jennifer Marjoribanks, Daniela Shankland, Stuart Reid and
Ross Melville.
On Monday, it’s Act 1 of Art by Yasmina
Reza. Serge has bought a modern painting for a huge sum of
money. Marc hates it and cannot believe that a friend of his
could possibly want such a ghastly work. Yvan attempts to
placate both sides while struggling with the plans for his
wedding. The comedy is less about art; more about friendship
tested to its absolute limit. The cast is Craig Murray, Brian
Paterson and Alan Clark.
